The Finance Ministry on Monday, 26 August 2019 announced that the last date for filing the GST annual returns has been extended to 30 November 2019.
The prior notice entailed all GST payers to fill their returns by 31 August 2019.
The Central Board of Indirect taxes and Income (CBIC) said that the decision to extend the date has been taken in order to ease the technical problems faced by tax payers due to which the annual returns for the period of 1 July, 2017 to 31 March, 2018 couldn’t be completed.
GSTR-9 is an annual return to be filled by yearly taxpayers and those whose annual turnover exceeds INR 2 crore are required to fill GST-9C. GSTR -9A is to be filled by those who have opted for composition scheme under GST.
The CBIC announced, "It is hereby informed that the last date for furnishing of annual return in the Form GSTR-9 / Form GSTR-9A and reconciliation statement in the Form GSTR-9C for the financial year 2017-18 is extended from August 31, 2019 to November 30, 2019"
